چکیده

Interests in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data analysis is driven by the constantly increased spatial resolutions of the acquired images, where the geometries of scene objects can be better defined than in lower resolution data. This paper addresses the problem of the built-up areas extraction in high-resolution (HR) SAR images, which can provide a wealth of information to characterize urban environments. Strong backscattering behavior is one of the distinct characteristics of built-up areas in a SAR image. However, in practical applications, only a small portion of pixels characterizing the built-up areas appears bright. Thus, specific texture measures should be considered for identifying these areas. This paper presents a novel texture measure by combining the proposed labeled co-occurrence matrix technique with the specific spatial variability structure of the considered land-cover type in the fuzzy set theory. The spatial variability is analyzed by means of variogram, which reflects the spatial correlation or non-similarity associated with a particular terrain surface. The derived parameters from the variograms are used to establish fuzzy functions to characterize the built-up class and non built-up class, separately. The proposed technique was tested on TerraSAR-X images acquired of Nanjing (China) and Barcelona (Spain), and on a COSMO-SkyMed image acquired of Hangzhou (China). The obtained classification accuracies point out the effectiveness of the proposed technique in identifying and detecting built-up areas. OPEN ACCESS Remote Sens. 2014, 6 3858

Evaluation of Sentinel-1 Interferometric SAR Coherence efficiency for Land Cover Mapping

In this study, the capabilities of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series data and machine learning have been evaluated for land cover mapping in Iran. In this way, a time series of Sentinel-1 SAR data (including 16 SLC images with approximately 24 days time interval) from 2018 to 2020 were used for a region of Ahvaz County located in Khuzestan province. Using InSAR proces...

In this paper two novel steganalysis methods is presented based on co-occurrence matrix of an image. It is shown that by using features extracted from this matrix, we can differentiate between cover and stego images. These features include energy, entropy, contrast, inverse difference moment, maximum probability and correlation. We use SVM classification for separation of cover and stego imag...

Microwave Imaging Using SAR

Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (Pol.-SAR) allows us to implement the recognition and classification of radar targets. This article investigates the arrangement of scatterers by SAR data and proposes a new Look-up Table of Region (LTR). This look-up table is based on the combination of (entropy H/Anisotropy A) and (Anisotropy A/scattering mechanism α), which has not been reported up now. ...

The Extended Sub-look Analysis In Polarimetric SAR Data For Ship Detection

The monitoring of maritime areas with remote sensing is essential for security reasons and also for the conservation of environment. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can play an important role in this matter by considering the possibility of acquiring high-resolution images at nighttime and under cloud cover. Recently, the new approaches based on the sub-look analysis for preserving the infor...

Very High Resolution Parametric and Non- Parametric Sartomography Methods for Monitoring Urban Areas Structures

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the only way to evaluate deformation of the Earth’s surface from space on the order of centimeters and millimeters due to its coherent nature and short wavelengths. Hence, by this means the long term risk monitoring and security are performed as precisely as possible. Traditional SAR imaging delivers a projection of the 3-D object to the two dimensional (2-D) a...
